At Airdrie Bayside Dental, we want you to have a healthy set of teeth you can use for decades to come. In order for this to happen, having proper oral hygiene is a must.
Below we have listed tips for you to keep your teeth healthy:
- Brush your teeth, tongue and the sides of your mouth
Your teeth aren’t the only surface bacteria likes to grow on. They can hide in your gums, tongue and the sides of your mouth. Brush your teeth and these areas gently after every meal or snack to prevent bacteria build up. - Floss daily
To get the most of your cleaning, floss to remove food and particles that are trapped between your teeth. Make sure you floss behind your back teeth. Those with braces can use a floss threader to get the floss behind those wires. - Use fluoride toothpaste
Fluoride helps replenish minerals in your teeth and make them more resistant to acid. By brushing your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste, you can make your enamel stronger. - Rinse with a mouthwash
Rinsing with a mouthwash after eating helps kill off lingering bacteria. If you have sugary drinks, you should also rinse with water (or mouthwash) . - Use a proxabrush
If you have braces, special attention is required when you clean your teeth. Braces provide more hideouts for bacteria. To avoid this, use a proxabrush to clean between your brackets and all those nooks and crannies where they might appear. - Get regular dental check-ups
In addition to having proper oral hygiene daily, visit your dentist regularly for a checkup to ensure you don’t miss any unwanted cavities and issues.
