Traditional metal braces:

These are the most common type of braces. They have changed a lot compared to a decade or so ago, and patients find them to be quite comfortable. Metal braces are made of high-grade stainless steel, and straighten your teeth using a combination of arch-wires and metal brackets. These braces also give you the option of adding coloured elastics or rubber bands for a more colourful smile.

Self-ligating braces:

They are made from the same materials as conventional braces, but instead of using elastics to hold the wire in the braces, they rely on a specialised clip to help the archwire guide teeth into their correct position. This specialised clip reduces the stress exerted on the tooth, and reduces the number of adjustments since there are no elastics to replace. They are also more hygienic as they reduce plaque buildup, and shorten your dental appointment time.

Clear (ceramic) braces:

They are made of clear material, which makes them less noticeable on your teeth compared to traditional metal braces. As such, clear braces are a popular choice for older teenagers and adult patients who are conscious about their appearance. Although they are less prominent, visually, they are brittle, which means that you should be careful with what you consume.

Invisalign clear aligners:

These refer to a series of invisible, removable, and comfy acrylic trays that straighten teeth like braces. Since they are removable, you can eat and drink whatever you want during treatment, and brush and floss with minimal hassle. They also don’t have metallic parts that can cause abrasions in your mouth during treatment.

Lingual braces:

These braces are concealed behind the teeth, which makes them invisible when you smile. Lingual braces are completely personalised to match the shape of your teeth, which means that they’ll fit you perfectly. They are the ideal orthodontic solution for athletes, celebrities, musicians who play wind instruments, and other adult professionals.

Damon braces:

These are similar to metal braces but they use a bracket instead of rubber bands to allow the archwire to slide during adjustments. They also use lighter wires compared to metal braces, which makes them considerably more comfortable than metal braces.

Invisible braces:

Actually, there are three different types of invisible braces: clear trays (clear braces), lingual braces, and simple wire. They are placed behind the teeth like lingual braces, but unlike the first two (discussed above), simple wire braces don’t include brackets, which means that you don’t have to restrict your diet.
